Like much of Nagai's work, it has been adapted multiple times. It has been adapted into a series of live action films, the first of which was released on March 22, 1991. It was adapted into an anime OVA that ran from August 1, 1991 to March 1, 1992 by Studio Signal. The anime was written by Sogo Masashi and scored by Ishikawa Keiju. It has also been adapted into hentai visual novels with the first being released on April 8, 1994 and the second on June 15, 1995. The name of the series is a parody of the superhero story Gekkou Kamen, and was conceived by Nagai as a silly joke that he sent to his editor, not expecting him to actually love the idea and ask to turn it into a full manga. The series also features parodies of various Japanese pop cultural icons in its cast. It is set at Spartan Academy, a school that prides itself on having the top students of Japan, but as its name suggests, this was achieved by putting the students through brutal educational regimens in an exaggerated parody of Japanese studying culture. Students who don't perform sufficiently well are publicly humiliated and punished and the school's sleazy principal, Toenail of Satan, likes to punish the female students by removing their clothes in some fashion. All of the students suffer under his reign, but Takahashi Mayumi has it particularly hard as she consistently scores low on her tests. However, a savior for Mayumi arrives in the form of Kekkou Kamen, a mysterious female superhero who wears one of the most revealing superhero costumes ever made, a pair of gloves and boots, a face-concealing mask with holes for her eyes, a scarf, and nothing else, so her privates are exposed all the time. Kamen is a skilled fighter, who may be one of the students at the school in disguise though no one knows which one, is a on a quest to protect the students of Spartan Academy from the sleazy faculty's abuse and the series follows her mission to bring justice to Spartan Academy and the mystery of just who Kekkou Kamen really is.
